The British are Coming! Spitfire & Hurricane Take Flight with U.S. Navy Blue Angels

CHESTERFIELD, Mo., Feb. 1, 2022 - The amazing US Navy Blue Angels will take to the skies over Chesterfield June 11-12, 2022, at the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show & STEM Expo, presented by Boeing. And we are excited to announce that they will be joined by the Dakota Territory Air Museum’s Supermarine Mk IXc Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane.

The Spitfire and the Hurricane became famous during World War II, including their valiant fight against Nazi invasion during the Battle of Britain. This specific Spitfire saw action during D-Day flying 19 missions over the D-Day beachhead. Throughout the rest of WWII it flew 41 combat operations, including Market Garden, and is one of only about 70 Spitfire in the world still able to fly.

“Our Eagle Squadrons assigned to the British Royal Air Force during the early days of WWII flew both the Spitfire and the Hurricane,” said John Bales, President of the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show committee and Spirit of St. Louis Airport Director. “It is an honor to have these amazing aircraft flying in our event. They are an ongoing reminder of the special relationship between the US and the UK, and of the power of heroes who raise their hand to serve a greater cause."

In addition to the Spitfire, Hurricane and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show & STEM Expo, presented by Boeing, will feature Skip Stewart, the CAF Red Tail P-51 Mustang, Matt Younkin in his Beech 18, “Yankee Lady” B-17G, B-29 “Doc,” the Phillips 66 Team, the PB4Y-2 Privateer, and other amazing aircraft to be announced in the coming months.
