Special Ops US Army Black Daggers to Appear at June Air Show & STEM Expo

CHESTERFIELD, Mo., Mar. 2, 2022 - Tickets are on sale now for the June 11-12 Spirit of St. Louis Air Show & STEM Expo, presented by Boeing, and we are thrilled to announce the additional of the US Army Special Operations Command “Black Dagger” Parachute Demonstration Team will be joining the US Navy Blue Angels. These amazing heroes perform live aerial demonstrations and represent the Army’s special ops community across the US.

Descending from the skies at 10,000 feet, traveling nearly 120 miles per hour, free-fall parachuting is the closest humans have ever come to actually flying. For the Black Daggers that’s a typical Monday morning. During their two-mile drop, the Black Daggers maneuver their body using their hands, arms, legs and shoulders to control their flight. At a few thousand feet, they deploy their parachutes and land with pin-point precision

Composed of volunteers from throughout Army special operations, the Black Daggers have diverse backgrounds and are skilled in various military specialties including Special Forces, Rangers, civil affairs, psychological operations, and signal and support. With an average age of 33 and an average number of free-fall jumps at 560, the team represents the professionalism and dedication of Army special operations forces.

“The men and women of the US Army Black Daggers are heroes who volunteer to be inserted behind enemy lines and disrupt the movement of enemy troops and supplies to the front lines,” said John Bales, President of the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show committee and Spirit of St. Louis Airport Director. “These brave Soldiers have frequently used parachutes as a means to infiltrate without being detected, and we are honored to have them demonstrate their amazing skills at the 2022 Spirit of St. Louis Air Show & STEM Expo.”

In addition to the Black Daggers, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be joined by the F-35A Lightning Demo Team, Skip Stewart, the CAF Red Tail P-51 Mustang, Matt Younkin in his Beech 18, “Yankee Lady” B-17G, B-29 “Doc,” the Phillips 66 Team, the PB4Y-2 Privateer, Spitfires, Hurricanes, Mosquito and other aircraft to be announced in the coming months.
